I live 6 miles away from this gorgeous Saxon town in the county of Dorset. It is famous for one particular street called Gold Hill , this was used in a tv advert for Hovis Bread back in the early 70’s, most people thought the advert was filmed in Yorkshire. At the top of Gold Hill is a large fibreglass Loaf used to collect money for the upkeep of the cobbled hill, and repair of the 700yr old Abbey Buttress wall( Incidentally used in the film ‘Far From The Madding Crowd ‘ when Terence Stamp as Cpt Troy (swoon) road down the hill on his charger)
Gold Hill, one of my favourite places.
Sorry about the dog poo, bottom left !
And the video from the 1973 directed by Ridley Scott !

This is considered the Uk’s favourite ever advert

Love this thorough post. Love that there is a statue of a loaf of bread. Love that there’s dog excrement in the photo! What kind of idiot wouldn’t clean up after their dog next to such a famous loaf? I hope the dog didn’t also pee on it. I hate soggy bread!
Those houses on that road looks fantastic. I love that that location is known for movies, commercials etc. though it’s the bread I love the most.

I like how you used a real picture to go along with the relief shown on the loaf. The view is great.

It has a great cafe at the top of the hill, you can sit outside and admire the view. The first weekend in July they have Gold Hill Fair , with market stalls, lots of Morris Men, eating ,drinking and merry making….
