The Colonel ate too much Christmas chicken! How could he be shut-eyed amidst these kind of holiday celebratory songs? I’d rather hear the chicken sizzling in oil then listen to lethargic Christmas songs. And that looks like a plastic Colonel on the 2nd album cover. I don’t think the fried chicken king put as much time or thought into his covers as he did his chicken. Then again, he’s not selling Christmas by the bucket.

I think they may have sold these in conjunction with some chicken special they were running. I am thinking that maybe they sold these at the restaurant itself. Don’t know but the second Colonel here looks like burnt plastic.

I’m sorry, but all I can think of when I see that first picture is a senile Colonel who just soiled himself at the family Christmas get-together and is now alone in the corner while everyone avoids him like the plague.

I hate regular KFC – I’m a Popeye’s girl. But has anyone ever tasted KFC’s baked chicken? YOU! I’m a recent convert.

I’ll second Denny’s emotion on Popeye’s bird. First time i had it was Mardi Gras 1975 on St. Charles Avenue, pretty much every meal for a couple days. It was local to New Orleans at the time. Then it spread, ahahahahah. Al Copeland, who started Popeye’s, used to put up huge elaborate Christmas displays at this house. It was a big hit, so much so he had to stop. One year he put up the display on the grounds of the state capitol here in Baton Rouge. That was a nice treat, right downtown from me.
I was elated to find a Popeye’s way out on Florida Blvd when i came to BR in 1977, a semi roadtrip for Saturday lunch. Then one opened by LSU and it was all over for lots of folks, some i knew pretty much lived on the bird.
There’s one down the street from me which i occasionally use for the red beans, that’s supper. Popeye’s makes great! red beans, believe me on that one. Monday is for red beans, Tuesday is for white beans, Wednesday is for fried chicken, Sundays too at the hospital, Thursday is spagetti, Friday is catfish and crawfish in season…he says with a fridge fulla Christmas take home…and two kinds of gumbo.

Now I know where I will be taking my break next time I am snappy away at Willis Wonderland! Popeye’s rocks my kitty!
