    Lawrence Welk could wish me anything and I’d be happy. I still have my Lawrence Welk bubbles and I would blow them mightily if I had this LP playing around the holidays.     Growing up i too was subjected to Lawrence Welk, he did nothing for my rocknroll soul to tell the truth. I have, however, seen some of the greatest accordion players to pick up the instrument though. Seems that when the Germans came over to Louisiana, they brought the instrument with them. It soon fell into the hands of the Cajuns who produced Cajun music, the Creoles who came up with Zydeco and over in Texas, the Mexicans who gave us
    Conjunto, all three styles of music being first cousins through the accordion, be it a single row, double row, triple row or piano accordion. Clifton Chenier is the greatest accordion player i have ever seen, playing one of those big old piano “Lawrence Welk” types. Zydeco, blues, rock and roll, you name it, he did it in his own style and yeah, highly danceable even if you have two left feets. Clifton is the ultimate Saturday afternoon turn it up LOUD in the living room music for me. Put one of his rekkids on and the house will be cleaned quickly. The Cajun culture was built around the single row accordion and the Saturday night fais do do, which still powers those dances. Our Hispanic friends are partial to the triple row which is a mighty little box in it’s own right producing some rather bright bouncy music that’s also highly danceable. And Allee, you might consider adding a frottoir(rubboard/washboard) and tit fer(triangle) to your arsenal of musical instruments. They would go along greatly with the spoons, for those of us that are slightly real instrument challenged.
