Dolphin coffee table

My husband’s grandmother had this in her much larger living room.  It takes up a considerable amount of our much smaller one.  The dolphin is brass (?), marble base & 1/2 inch thick glass top.  4′ x 3′ x 2′ tall.  I would not have picked it out for myself  :-/

   Wow! Kitschtastic!!

   This kind of table design baffles me. I understand that it makes the dolphin more exciting to have its fin poking through the table but what a pain in the butt to lose all that table space in the middle. And I can’t even imagine how many glasses may have been set too close to the fin and tipped over because they weren’t sitting on an even surface. Then again, the constant spillage gives a nice liquid ocean effect and the dolphin is much more realistic and happy that way.
