This is the biggest image I could get a hold of, this was sent to me by a friend who lives in Georgia. He also wrote the following commentary that gives you a little bit of information on this amazing, square-shaped chicken building!

“it was built sometime in the early 60s and I used to love riding past it to see the beak open and close, and the eyes roll. they mentioned it once on designing women- julia asked anthony where a design supply store was and he said, ‘oh it’s easy- you just take I-75 to the big chicken and turn right.’ i hope nobody ever tried this, because it would send them plummeting 50 feet off a freeway overpass! the big chicken is on actually on hwy 41 (also known as cobb parkway), a secondary road. it’s still there and it’s been re-furbished (by pepsi…)”

Love this! I’ve seen photos of it before. But never knew the mouth and eyes moved.
I don’t care what the food tastes like once a place looks this good.
Is it still open? The person who administrates my music publishing lives in Marietta. Mmmm, maybe time for a personal visit…

Nice photo! Somewhere in my collection is the chicken bean bag advertising doll from this restaurant. It looks just like the chicken part of the building, and I think it says Big Chicken on it. If I can find the storage box it’s in, I’ll take a photo and send it to you.

And post it here too please!

Still up and running from what I hear!

I don’t know if it’s true, but I’ve heard that KFC has been trying to banish this bird for years, but the local residents will have none of it. I hope they stand their ground so this chicken can keep up the kitsch for years to come.

I was visiting my brother in Georgia this past Christmas, and he drove me by to see this giant chicken and it looks even more impressive in real life. My brother told me the same story that Nessa tells, that they have been trying to banish the giant bird for a long time, but the residents won’t hear of it.
