World’s Fair Crayon Girl

Crayon-holder girl from the Chicago World’s Fair of 1933. Made of wood. Has a hole in her head, so she’s probably missing a pom-pom or a cord or something.

It’s marked the Hall of Science… I did a lot of research and I couldn’t find another one of these ANYWHERE on the internet. I rescued it from a flea market for I think $3. I did find a map of the ’33 World’s Fair and it had a shop on it marked “CRAYON SHOP”, so maybe that is where this thing came from.

Original (slightly melted) crayons are inside, too!

This is SO insanely rare!! I’ve seen so much memorabilia from this World’s Fair but NEVER saw anything remotely resembling this before.

Amazing that there would have been an entire shop devoted to crayons.

Amazing that the Hall Of Science decal is still on as many times as grubby little hands must have opened this thing.

    REALLY EXCEPTIONAL!!!

Yes, I’ve taken the crayons out! I even colored with them a little. They are really waxy and have a kind of a glittery sheen to them. They still color just fine. =) I can take them out and add a picture of them to the post if you like. They don’t have any marks though.

Okay, I really need the “envy” button for this one. I have a few Chicago World’s Fair items (as I’m from Chicago) but have never seen this. What a find! And $3.00! And original crayons!

I ALMOST left it behind but then decided it had to come home with me. After I went looking for others, I was really glad I brought it home. I really like her and she looks great on the desk. And I love Chicago. =D
