Confirming Venice, California as one of the funkiest places on the planet is this giant clown in a tutu (or conversely, a ballerina in a clown outfit) looming over the Renaissance Building at the corner of Main Street and Rose Ave.
Most residents of Venice hate this 34-foot-high sculpture by artist Jonathan Borofsky and I’ve heard that it’s considered misogynist, but you gotta admire it for transforming a boring CVS pharmacy into a kitsch landmark.

I cant even believe you put this up! I was blabbing on about this exact statue when I was in Madison last week and there was some public art someone got paid a fortune to do made out of PVC. I was using this Borofsky sculpture as an example of art in public places that made me PUKE. OMG! I cant tell you howmuch i HATE this thing, yet its perfect for AWMOK!! And I guess perfect for Santa Monica. Yay, I’m in the valley!

You’re definitely not alone in your loathing this sculpture. In fact, the slightest mention of it consistently elicits a passionate response, almost the way the mention of OJ Simpson did after he got off in the first trial.
Thanks for the Classique d’ Camembert!
