70’s Owl Eyeglass Holders

These quintessentially 70’s ceramic owls are designed to hold eye-glasses. The eyes are plastic and the black irises are the kind that jiggle when you shake them. I’m wondering why the clever designers of today haven’t come up with really hip figural eyeglass holders. Maybe because most people wear contacts or have had laser surgery? And sunglasses when not in use are supposed to be worn on the head or hanging on a shirt?

These are fantastic! I have a ton of eyeglass holders but I’ve never seen these. I agree that it’s nuts no one is making great holders despite the fact that they’re making lots of chains and loops to wear the glasses around your neck. That doesn’t do anyone any good when they’re sleeping…

I wish owls lived in the jungle.

allee, i was wondering about whether owls lived in the jungle as well and it turns out some of them do…

from wikipedia: “…many species of owl can be found in jungles, including the Crested owl, Spectacled Owl, Great Horned Owl, Fishing Owl and some species of small screech owl…”

so perhaps these belong in the petting zoo indeed!

Wow, these are great. I’ve seen lots of eyeglasses holders but these are by far the coolest.

Funny how even though we’re perfect strangers, I’m starting to familiarize myself with fellow akischionados’ tastes. When I’m treasure hunting I find myself thinking, “Nessa would love this,” or “Denny would flip over this,” or “Allee probably has 10 of these.”

They are beautiful… I was standing in the middle of a field in a dealers booth.. All around me were spagetti poodles…they had a black one sprinkled w/pink roses???… a velvet board filled w/beautiful enamel pins???.. and a huge selection of ceramic kitchen kitsch????… and no way to share it???…sigh

Yes way to share it: Takes photos! There’re a lot of submissions here where people don’t actually own the objects that take unbelievable photos at the flea markets. So have a camera ready and these sights will be ours to behold as well as yours!

Thanks! By the way, are you able to come to L.A. for Allee’s show in October? Hope so– would love to finally meet you in person.
