Glitter platform shoes

These are my silver glitter platform shoes from 1973. They have 3 inch heels. I would wear them when I went up to Hollywood to dance at Rodney Bingenheimer’s English Disco on Sunset Blvd. It was an amazing club, filled with under-aged kids like myself exploring the world of drugs and rock ‘n’ roll and sexuality for the first time. Actually, at the tender age of 19, I was considered a little too old to be in the club! Everyone wore make-up and dressed in glam and bondage outfits (very androgynous), and we would dance to Bowie and New York Dolls while watching ourselves in mirrors, acting like we were jaded rock stars.

These shoes are excellent! I have almost the exact same ones but sans the glitter. I thankfully have all my shoes from my Disco period.

I’m very impressed that you still have the box!

Gorgio Brutini still makes great pimp shoes to this day.

This is the second time in two days that Rodney Bingenheimer’s name has graced the museum though my brain is blank as to which post it is….

Rodney came up when we were discussing the Ranch Market in Hollywood as oppose to the Riverside Market.

HOLY S***, I can’t stand it! These shoes just made me plotz (thank you for that word Allee!!) and I think I need a sedative! Please, please, please do you have ANY pics of you wearing these shoes? These are so amazing that I would hang them on my wall. Thank you Michael for making me aware of this post. Ugh, I’m breathless.

Sadly, Denny, I have no photos from my youthful glam days. Guess I was having too much fun to think about pics! All I have is my shoes and memories.
