This is a 1960’s golden egg toy savings bank from Red Goose Shoes for boys and girls (the store slogan embossed on the egg is: Half the fun of having feet). The egg is made of metallic gold plastic and comes in two halves and was filled with pieces of candy and little toys (such as whistles, clickers and tokens). When you bought a pair of new shoes, you got to go up to a large mechanical goose and pull it’s neck and it would lay a golden egg! What fun!
I don’t know much about the little cardboard red goose on the wooden stand (which I found in a thrift store). I have seen it once on ebay and it said it was circa 1920’s, but I don’t know.

I totally remember Red Goose Shoes. I don’t know that I ever owned a pair but I think I always liked the Red Goose logo and Red Goose goose statues in the the little kiddie shoe stores when I used to go for a new pair of patent leather T-straps or white bucks. For sure hadI seen this egg and if buying a pair of Red Gooses had been a requirement for acquiring one I would have switched to that brand.
So great that you have both the egg and the Red Goose goose to display it with.

I remember this so well! I think I made my mom buy me shoes there so I could get the egg bank. The thrill of seeing these things again makes this collection so wonderful. I wish I would have kept my Jesus of the Bermudas. I had that thing for almost 30 years and got rid of it a few years ago. Would have fit in here so beautifully.

At least you didn’t have to have your feet xrayed to be fitted for a pair, like Buster Brown Shoes did.
