Piggy Planter

Submitted by Nessa February 9th, 2010

Over the years I’ve collected a massive army of ceramic figural planters. If they’re cheap and funny, I can’t resist them. I also have a particular fondness for pigs, though I hate to admit it. Here is a pig-twin of a planter already submitted to the Kitschenette. Mine has a bit different coloring. These things were hand painted, so you can find dozens of different ones.

Love this little pig planter as I love the other one submitted at https://www.alleewillis.com/awmok/kitschenette/2010/02/07/ceramic-pig-planter/.

I have a couple pig planters myself as they were a very popular accessory made as much to keep in baby’s rooms stuffed with things like cotton balls and Q-tips as they were for little plants and cactuses to grow out of. I know I lost one of them in the ’94 earthquake out here in LA but I have another one pushing a little wagon as well as one riding a tricycle somewhere. One day when I have a break from my curatorial duties here at AWMoK I’ll see if I can dig them out.

Nessa I love the tudor in the snow in the background.
I think it gives the planter a setting congruent with when they would’ve been popular in little kid’s rooms. I also like it when animals are depicted as (maybe unknown) cartoon characters!

I noticed the tutor house in the snow as well and thought it was the perfect background for the nice cozy and warm piggy inside.

I’m glad you liked it! The light inside is pretty terrible and obviously there’s no place to photograph piggy outside today! So the window will have to do.
