Amen painting

Submitted by leebamarks March 30th, 2010

A man came to my door a few years ago selling paintings. I thought this was so tacky that I actually liked it. It reminded me of the velvet paintings my grandmother used to have. It was only $50.00 and I think he really needed the dough. It reads ” amen” in hebrew. He said he painted it himself, did he ? I do not know, but like I said I was happy to give him alittle gelt.

This painting is good for the Passover spirit but for me it’s a tad too serious to be Kitsch. Although the giant Hebrew letters (which my parents would turn in their graves knowing I have no idea what they say (Shalom?)} – loom as large as God. Maybe if you glued pieces of broken matzo on the frame it would take on more aspects of Kitsch.

    Allee,

It says AMEN in Hebrew! When I find some Kitsch that say’s Shalom in Hebrew, I will send it you so you can see the difference.!!
Incidentiall, my daughter thought we should add shells to the frame to make it more interesting.

    Yes, add the shells!

The more I look at the painting the more I like it.

And, duh, I should have had a little hint it said Amen from the title…
