I’d heard about this record years ago, and it sounded pretty good. I finally picked up a copy the other day, and — sweet jesus — this thing is better than anything I could have hoped for. It could be the single best record I own.
Start with Muhammad Ali spending 40 minutes discussing tooth decay. Add appearances by celebrity guest stars like Frank Sinatra and Richie Havens, a bunch of kids, and some truly wooden dialog straight out of a dental textbook. Throw in a song that doesn’t make any sense. And if that isn’t enough for you, top it off with narration by Howard Cosell.

This LP is totally nuts on a multitude of levels. Never thought I’d see the champ in the ring with Tooth Decay, not to mention Frank Sinatra and Howard Cosell at ringside. The back cover also slays me with Ali and the “gang” working the fields outside the tooth filled main house.

Wow this is so great. I miss the era of ernest public service announcements. It seems like now you really only get celebrities involved if they’re fulfilling community service hours.
I wonder if anyone has ever done a study of the dental records of Ali’s opponents. It would be so awesome if they were all cavity free.

I think this album and it’s concept should be made into a musical. Well, I think any record of this caliber should be made into a musical!
