“Keeping The Home Boy Home” is written by our queen of kitsch, Allee Willis. It also happens to be one of the songs that has eluded me for some time. I’ve been slowly working on compiling a set of cd’s that features people singing Allee’s songs. Allee wrote this song back in 1990 and it is only recently I have been trying to secure a copy of it for this project. I’ve been pretty aggressive in tracking things down but no luck here.

I have only the vaguest memories of this one. Could not sing you the song or one lyric if my life depended on it, though I do remember the melodies sung under the title. Was this on the discs that you sent me? I don’t remember it being there because I played every song that had escaped my memory banks and could not believe how many you came up for. Oh, I see… It’s also one that you haven’t been able to find. Well, it’s certainly not over here at Willis Wonderland. I will be on the hunt now too.

No need to fear, the archival elf has now found it. I updated that series of cd’s and found another 80 minutes worth of songs that you wrote. All of my research is done by going by the list you have online. I think I might email you the songs that I recently added to this project, that way they could be instantly downloaded with the others you have stored……
Speaking of people doing your songs. Ran into Royal Jones who about had a fit that I even knew the song he sang written by you “Come What May”…… He spoke highly of you and David Lasley, I am digressing once again……
I love this project and look forward to working with your demos that are on tape. I’m realizing how important it is to have access to your archives and demos…….Glad I could help with this…..It also gives me something fun to do…..

I am, as usual, so impressed with your archival skills!! can’t wait to get the other 80 min. I can’t even tell you how much it means to me that I finally have the bulk of my songs in my computer. I had no idea I wrote half of what I wrote!
I think I told you that Come What May is in my new live show on May 8 and 9th at King King in Hollywood. There is a huge surprise that happens with it ( and it’s not Patti LaBelle) but is definitely something I’ve never done before…

It’s just going to be nice to get away. Friend needs some moving help when out there and I may extend my trip for 1 week.
