I happened upon the blessed virgin last weekend on a trek to the liquor store. I live in Astoria Queens and for those of you who are not familiar it is VERY GREEK and VERY ITALIAN. So there are religious statues in everybody’s yard. Some shrines are very grande (more to come at a later date). But this was a BIG mary (around 4 feet tall) with a fresh coat of paint- and the threatening LED icicle arbor just killed me.

Fabulous on all counts but none so great as the sharks teeth that protect the Blessed Virgin.
Are those real or fake flowers?
Please tell me this lights up at night. Or perhaps the owner feels it’s threatening enough to keep hands away without the added effect.

Whoa mary, this is amazing!

this was the tale end of our very tame winter so the flowers are very fake. also notice the cabbage or cauliflower that never died since the fall. i haven’t been back at night yet because this was not my usual route. :) but i will see what i can do.

I love this…Im very partial to religious kitsch and anything with the virgin mary is right up there with gnomes and pixies.
