Mark Milligan
Me too Allee!
Thanks k2 for the link!
Carrie
Dang! I wish my Buick looked that hot!
windupkitty
wow….mark, i am always conflicted about reading your posts! they are always so insane and excellent but i’m always tortured afterward!!! how is it that i can have so many vehicular soul mates!?!?! i feel like such a tramp!!!! those head lamps are killing me! do you know if they moved!?!? at first i thought they were floating or suspended but then realized they were on pedestals…still…wow…i don’t usually like these muscle type cars…they always look angry and aggressive to me, but man this thing is totally space age!!!!
Allee Willis
Did anyone watch the 5 day muscle car live Mecam auctions last week and weekend on Velocity TV. That was a swoon a minute. 2000 vintage beauties, not all muscle. Seriously left me comatose. And shocking how relatively little some of them went for.
Mark Milligan
No I didn’t get a chance to see that. I have in the past, it’s a good show.
I did go to an afternoon at the Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale a couple of weeks ago. Prices there didn’t seem so reasonable.
Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2012 – Top Ten Auction Results
1. 1948 Tucker Torpedo – $2,915,000
2. 1947 Bentley Mark VI Franay DHC – $2,750,000
3. 1933 Pierce-Arrow Silver Arrow – $2,200,000
3. 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing – $2,200,000
5. 1954 Desoto Adventurer II Coupe – $1,430,000
6. 1928 Daimler P.1.50 Vee Front Royal Limousine – $1,155,000
7. 1930 Isotta Fraschini Tipo Cabriolet – $1,100,000
8. 1930 Duesenberg Model J – $1,045,000
9. 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 K Code – $1,000,000
10. 2012 Chevrolet Corvette 60th Anniversary Convertible – $600,000
Allee Willis
I don’t know the Barrett Jackson auction. I never had any interest in going to any of these car auctions as I knew that I would be so jealous I couldn’t see straight. But ever since the Velocity Channel came on DirecTV the Mecam auctions are on a lot. Now I’m completely obsessed with going to one and could probably keep my jealousy under control. There is a big one in Monterey in August but Snappy’s family house, where we all stay when we go there, will most likely be rented out for that weekend as it brings in huge bucks.
Mark Milligan
I know the cars that fetch that kind of cake are fantastic, but at some point it gets to be a little surreal. Barrett Jackson is televised, always wanted to go, and I was working in Scottsdale while it was in progress so it worked out.
The cast of characters that were in attendance were as fun to watch as the cars!
I’d rather rescue an old Detroit survivor for a few thousand bucks, they need love too.
Allee Willis
Amen. Detroit survivor my speed too.
k2dtw
Mark & Allee?? …”Detroit Survivor”..GREAT Lyrics???..
Would they be a great song lyrics???.. Commercial??? Theme Song???…
Allee Willis
I’d want any music about Detroit to sound completely positive so wouldn’t use the word ‘survivor’. But is Detroi deserving to be honored in music time and time again? YES!!
Mark Milligan
Yes!
