I still go visit the Wigwams on Route 66 in CA. In fact, I’m going to a party there in a couple of weeks. I love them, though they’re VERY claustrophobic to sleep in.

    I want that sign!!

I agree, road trip kitsch is the best!

I have seen this motel in Holbrook many times while having adventures along old Route 66, but have never actually stayed there. For anyone who wants to really get a feel for old Route 66, the drive thru Arizona from Kingman to Holbrook is awesome with kitsch stops and points of interest all along the way. It is one of the best preserved sections of the old mother road still in existence today.

Thanks for the Route 66 info, would really love to see it… More than few years ago now , we got off I-40, onto Route 66 thru Albuquerque, loved Abq. We found by accident the beautifully restored Deco Kimo Theater. It was when “Cars” came out…Pixar did a private showing at the Kimo, they were all celebrating Route 66 and their fame in the movie…it was a great time, felt lucky to be there.

It is an amazing stretch of road if you love roadside kitsch. I have hundreds of photos from just a short trip through there.

Do the interiors of the wigwams at the Arizona Wigwan have a false ceiling or is it open so you really feel like you’re in a tee-pee? The ceilings in the San Bernadino ones are very low. (I was literally there TONIGHT.) Perfect other than that though.

Ok. I *just* posted my interior shots of Holbrook’s Wigwam Motel. It is a false ceiling and quite claustrophobic. Were you staying IN one tonight? Or just…visiting?
