This is a vintage naugahyde and ranch oak wagon wheel rocking chair. The saddle graphic is stitched onto the back of the chair with contrasting naugahyde. This type of wagon wheel furniture was very popular in the 1940’s and 1950’s when Western decor was all the rage. Today these pieces are highly prized and can be difficult to find.

Ooh, I’ve seen seen this chair in the flesh and love it. One of my old music publishers had it in her office in the 80s. Although I never collected Western stuff this is one thing I would have popped down the coin down for immediately! This one looks like it’s in perfect shape. How long have you had it?
Have you ever seen the matching couch? My publisher had one of those too.

Alas, I don’t have the matching couch (which I believe folds down into a small bed). I bought this chair about 15 years ago from a small antique store in Eloy, AZ. Yes, the overall chair is in pretty good shape. To see some other cool vintage Western type furniture (including couches), I came across this store site – http://t-m-cowboyclassics.com/dynapage/PP01.htm

Michael do you know where this was made?

I forgot about this genre, which was fairly common in rural Nebraska when I was growing up as a kid in the 60’s!

Hey Mark. Gosh, I have no clue as to where this type of wagon wheel furniture was manufactured. In fact, I’ve done searches to no avail.
