Neon motel signs thrill me as much today as they did when I was a kid. We used to drive from Detroit to Miami Beach twice a year and I’ve loved when we drove at night because we passed so many of these fantastically happy signs. If only I had the sense to take photos on my little Brownie camera when I was sitting in the backseat of our 1956 Cadillac. I always wanted to stop in so I could get a few more bars of the little motel soap.

I remember as a kid we would stay at Best Western hotels because they took Phillips 66 credit cards.

All those neon signs on cafes, hotels, motels, gas stations, theaters, and all kinds of businesses I totally took for granted as a kid.

As you know, I travel a lot. This was Boise. I have another motel from Billings, and a club in Boise that I haven’t posted, along with the Bluebird theater in Denver. Would you like me to post them, and should I submit them all at once?

YES, post them! I always prefer when these things are posted separately as opposed to all in one big long post because it’s easier to concentrate on the beauty of them singly.

This is incredible. Neon signs are always thrilling. Your killing me Allee. That is exactly the style of car we took our drives in. Different year though, late 60’s and early 70’s Cadillacs. That’s all my Grandfather would drive.

Driving from Philly to Florida was always an adventure full of seashells stands, neon signs, dead armadillos and fabulous hotels, all in a Cadillac.

NO MARK, post separately! Look forward to more roadside heaven!
