And you thought Detroit only produced cars and Motown music? Apparently, it was in the ice cream biz too, based on these two vintage paper bag/wrappers from the 1940’s. The bags measure only 6 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ so I’m not clear on whether they contained the whole ice cream treat or just the cone. And it’s amazing they survived life in a freezer given they’re just made of thin paper. In any case, I wish contemporary ice cream labels would have such wonderful and imaginative graphics. Allee– were these still around when you were a kid growing up in Detroit?

I don’t remember these exact bags but do remember bags over ice cream like drumsticks so chunks of nuts and chocolate always collected at the bottom. I’m such a texture and sound freak so always loved rummaging around the bottom of these flimsy paper bags.
I absolutely LOVE the graphics, especially Mr. Big. I love how his top hat is balanced on his flat head.
