Cyndi made this in college after we married. I will never forget how hard she worked on it for a class she was taking (grades mattered to her, that must be why she is a teacher.) Circa 1976. She used an exacto knife to give it the layers of dimension.

You know that the owl is the national bird of Kitsch and this is an excellent 70s owl, the best era for owls as well as kitsch. She really had the paint technique going with that X-Acto knife. Would love to see a photo of this in color if you ever stumble across one. And, did Cyndi do more art?

I think the technique is called relief sculpture, where they cut out the material and glue one on top of the other to give it the depth perspective. That is in color. :)
