As I’ve often said before, I absolutely love when a popular trend or phrase of the day is matched with a product that has absolutely nothing to do with it. In this case, as much as I would love a fireman to go go go up a ladder as fast as he can it’s absolutely not the case that I want him to GoGo dance up the ladder. Popularizing on the dance trend, “GoGo” is absolutely force-fed to this product.

Is there any year on the box?

I absolutely love how tiny he is and how huge that 101 story high ladder is. He must make an unbelievable sound as he shimmies up and down the ladder. I would record it and use it as a sound effect.

Also superior is the fact that they’ve split his occupation into two words, fire man.

The box is in Japanese, so I can’t tell if there’s a year on it, but, I bought it in Tokyo in 1984.

When I see Go Go in combination with toys like this, I think of Inspector Gadget, especially the mid-80s cartoon. Before using any of his gadgets he would say “Go go gadget” and then the name of the gadget.

I forgot about that but Inspector Gadget probably influenced the naming of this toy more than the dance did. One way or another, it’s still co-opting a trend to push the sales of your own nonrelated product. So (thankfully) kitschy.

The yellow Japanese on the box says “helter skelter man”, more or less, which makes the “go go” even more fun.
