This was a 10″ LP that I picked up at a thrift store. I don’t know why Bing was called “Der Bingle” but I thought this caricature of him was fantastic, the eyes, the hat and the pipe really stand out in this caricature. The first song “Learn to Croon” made me realize that I had almost forgotten what a “crooner” was. Another “crooner” was Perry Como. I can’t think of a single “crooner” in this day and age.

Der Bingle is an absolutely fabulous name for the Bing. The caricature is great. This is the best I’ve ever seen him look.
I love that this was part of the House Party series. I guess the party Bing was Der Bingle.
People would say that contemporary singers like Michael Buble and Harry Connick Jr. were crooners though I don’t really know their repertoire.

One time I had a 78 rpm record of his theme song….When the blue of the night meets the gold of the day….ba..ba…ba. I was trying to clean it up with a gadget I made, a dowel fitted into a hole on a 12″x12″ piece of plywood, when I slipped and broke it in half. Those records are difficult to keep in good shape. I still have a bunch of Danny Kaye records. He was one of my favorite performers and, in 1947, I had a chance to see him in person at the Golden Gate Theater in San Francisco. I took a picture of him from the audience and still have it.
