Came across this giant black concrete cactus that someone felt compelled to build and place on their front lawn in Venice. Maybe it was to distract from the current aesthetic of the house and lawn? (If you’re wondering, someone has placed a string with some kind of folded paper cut-outs around the top branch.)

That’s hysterical. Surpassed only by the hatchet skinning job on that poor (real) palm tree. Are there any other concrete plants around the house? I also like the little Y-shaped branch holding up the smaller fern palm.
It looks like the concrete cactus is sitting on a little disk. Is that an electrical cord coming out of it or is it sitting on a little concrete strip (which make no sense either as what is it framing)?
The visible dumpster is another excellent landscaping touch.

If you look closely you can see there’s a base with concrete strips
that go out from all four sides– I think it’s to keep the huge thing
stable. No, that’s the only concrete plant, and yes, I thought the
dumpster was a nice touch too. There’s something very depressing about this little lawn, isn’t there? And with so many natural cactuses (that get pretty damn big) in L.A., you wonder why anyone would build an ugly black one made out of concrete.

Yes, lawn is depressing but individual plants/trees are great if they weren’t so clumped together. The concrete cactus is insane.
