This ad is from “American Homes” magazine March 1947. If I’m reading this right, you can wash your dirty laundry in this “Thor Automagic” washing machine, and an hour later, wash fine china and glassware…all in the SAME machine. This could have been the start of disposable cups, plates and plastic forks.

Although it seems kind of gross to combine underwear with dishes even if they’re in the machine at different times this is probably an appliance I would have popped down the coin for back in the day had I been around. I’m up for anything that adds more convenience to my life. It also seems relatively green, especially for 1947. I also love the name Thor, as if it’s some kind of cleaning monster, which I guess it is.
