Found this charming Middle Eastern chotchke in a vintage store on Sheinkin Street (the Melrose of Tel Aviv) while living in Israel for two years (directing an animated feature in Jerusalem of all places.) 40 Shekels well spent, if you ask me.

Do you have any idea what rubber Arafat was made or used for? Is it an art piece? Or is it hollow and meant to fit over something? One way or another, it’s a dead ringer! Hope he has a good dentist.

Ha ha! No, actually I don’t know what the head was used for. It’s about the right size for a hand puppet, but usually those are hollow and this isn’t. Also, there’s no “base” around the neck. I guess it could be an “object d’art” as you suggest although we both know that term is really stretching it for this bizarre head.
