As Maurice Chevalier said, “Thank Heavens for Little Girls” The kitsch world (and our house) is full of these big, sad eyed girls, from the genius minds of Keane(s), Gig, Eden etc. It does leave one to wonder, what happens to these girls as they grow up? Well, here’s an answer. This big-eyed maiden, with her placid face and the somewhat modest placement of her left hand seems to be blossoming into womanhood. She sits, mysteriously illuminated against the darkness of the black velvet, and from the look of it, apparently a bit chilly.
I found this damsel at a flea market last year with an asking price of $40. I offered $25, and the seller countered at $30. I suggested to him that the girl’s uneven breasts made the $25 price more appropriate. After a moment of silence, he said “I like her uneven breasts.” How could I argue? It was a deal at $30!

She’s not only chilly but looks like she’s pumped full of silicone too. When I first looked at it I didn’t think of her as not being a woman yet but looking at it from that perspective it’s kind of creepy that this little nubian posed for an artist who would be so comfortable with a young, not-yet-woman girl displaying the goods for so long. The modest placement of her left hand doesn’t concern me anywhere near as much the position of her right hand, cocked and ready to go.
