hand crafted wire mesh with vintage bottles

I love this wall hanging. I don’t know if you would classify it as kitsch but it is one of my favorite pieces. I got it at an arts and crafts show a while back and it illicits alot of comments from everyones that comes over. It has a skelton key in the middle and it opens up there.

I lean toward the sillier and pop culture arms of Kitsch but some would definitely classify this as Kitsch due to the fact that it’s handmade and employs found objects.

Have you ever been to or seen photos of Bottle Village in Simi Valley, CA? It’s a gigantic version of this wall hanging made by Grandma Prisbrey over many many years and still miraculously though somewhat precariously standing after sustaining damage in the 1994 Northridge earthquake. http://home.roadrunner.com/~echomatic/bv/index.html

I want to go to grandma prisbrey’s also. I am also inspired to chop up the cement in my back yard and a make it grandma prisbeyish.
