Valentines Day is for Everybody…. (Valentine’s Day Contest Submission)

Love Is In The Hair

That IS what they’re talking about, right???????? Since romance is in the air this week, I thought this might be appropriate (or well, maybe inappropriate!). I defy anyone to not get this song stuck in their head! Also, as far as I can tell, it might as well have been written for the accordion (honestly, somehow, I can’t help but picture the incomparable Madeline Kahn, doing her best Marlene Dietrich, singing this while playing a toy accordion)….Another thumbs up on the kitsch scale, if you ask me….

    Spectacular time piece!

I have absolutely no idea how I never saw this in the ’70s, especially as I had graduated college with a degree in Journalism and a minor in Advertising from the University of Wisconsin, was doing advertising at Columbia and Epic Records in NY and absolutely ate up anything that was the least bit forward thinking and stylized in advertising, especially TV commercials. The Ad Council did very hip commercials and that juxtaposition of the corny music with the straight ahead lyric on top of those visuals would have been considered very hip in those days. They were undoubtedly aware of the kitschiness and integrated it into the style in a very classy (and melted cheese) way for those days.

Yeah, isn’t this great!? It was obviously done with a fantastic sense of humor and kitsch, which I love…I agree on the Ad Council…there were some really fabulous PSA’s on TV….what happened!?!

Ya know, it seems to me that even though TV today is so saturated with violence and cheesy/bizarre depictions of sex, this ad would probably never run now…too risque and too, I don’t know, nonconservative…..

wow, interesting about your education….i wonder if i’ll ever find a topic that you haven’t covered, lived, changed for the better….!?! :D i doubt it!!!!
