I found one of these in the early ’80s and got so excited because I thought it was so unique. But then I started seeing them popping up in all the little kitschy gift shops that were so popular in the ’80s and realized that maybe it wasn’t as vintage as I thought. But despite this limitation, it works as great Kitsch because both the man and the woman pictured are about as far away from beatniks as could possibly be, the kind of suburban folks who got nervous if a beatnik was within 100 feet of them.

This lapse in appropriate graphic would be enough to qualify the “Beatnick Cigarette Holder” as a great Kitsch but, best of all, the word ‘beatnik’ is misspelled. So though this is a little more common than I usually like my Kitsch to be I have to give it props and award it a Certifikitsch Of AuthenKitschity for all the mistakes made in the packaging.
